INT Procedures

INT adopts the role of "Master Director" to coordinate and integrate traffic. INT will pass instructions to inbound traffic in order to perform integration of the two streams until handover to Final Director.

Aircraft should be handed over from the TMA descending to MSL + 1 at TIMBA/WILLO. If they need to enter the hold, follow the procedures detailed in the "Stack Management" section. If there is no delay, they can be pulled straight off the stack. INT is responsible for aircraft at MSL and MSL+1. The TMA may hand over aircraft to INT in the stack above these levels, but the levels belong to the TMA. Aircraft shouldn't leave the hold until they are at MSL or MSL+1 unless it is co-ordinated with the TMA.

During westerly operations, standard headings to use off TIMBA and WILLO are 310 degrees and 070 degrees respectively. If you don't need aircraft inbound to WILLO to hold, it can be easier to pull them off at HOLLY. The standard heading to use from here is 050 degrees. During easterly operations, standard headings to use off TIMBA and WILLO are 310 degrees and 285 degrees respectively. Obviously, ensure that you take the wind into account and adjust these headings accordingly.

If you are sequencing a number of aircraft together, they should leave the stack at 220kts and at MSL - Remember, if aircraft are on the same heading, and same speed, they can be descended to the same level.

During westerly operations, aircraft should be descend to 4000ft when leaving the stacks. The 2 streams should merge around the vicinity of MAY. During easterly operations, aircraft should be merged when abeam the airfield and descended to 4000ft.

When the two stacks have been merged into 1 single stream, all at 220kts, descending to 4000ft, they can be transferred to the final director. Only transfer aircraft that are "clean" (No conflictions with any other aircraft).

When handing over to FIN, you should advise them if non standard altitudes or speeds have been used for an aircraft. On transfer of control, controllers should use the phrase "Contact Gatwick Director on 118.950 with callsign only". Distance from touchdown information should also be passed to the aircraft as they are transferred.
