Altitude restrictions and agreements are noted as follows:
A05 |
Specified altitude only. QNH of the arrival field should be used. |
200 |
Specified level only. Lower levels available if co-ordinated. |
MSL |
Minimum Stack Level |
|
Not above specified level. |
![]() |
Not below specified level. |
Bandboxing
Combining two or more sectors into one position.
Designated sector
A sector listed in the table of contents with a unique identifier.
External agreement (in/out)
Standing agreements with international units. No co-ordination should be needed if traffic is offered at the levels and points specified but it is good practise to confirm that all agreements are valid when first connecting.
Internal agreement (in/out)
Standing agreements with other UK sectors. No co-ordination is needed if traffic is offered at the levels and points specified.
MSL (Minimum Stack Level)
The lowest whole flight level which provides a minimum of 1000ft separation above the applicable transition altitude. MSL in the London TMA is based on the Heathrow QNH. MSL in the Manchester TMA is based on the Manchester QNH. MSL in the Scottish TMA is based on the Glasgow QNH.
London & Scottish TMA. QNH 1013+, MSL = FL70. QNH 1012-978, MSL = FL80. QNH 977-943, MSL = FL90.
Manchester TMA. QNH 1013+, MSL = FL60. QNH 1012-978, MSL = FL70. QNH 977-943, MSL = FL80.
Position
Controlling station, can be one or more sectors if bandboxed.
LACC
London Area Control Centre (IvAc: EGTT)
LTCC
London Terminal Control Centre (IvAc: EGTL)
ScACC
Scottish Area Control Centre (IvAc: EGPX)
Intention codes are used so radar controllers can easily identify the destination or UK FIR exit point of a flight without having to bring up the flight plan. They should always be used in the cleared waypoint (F5) field of IvAc.
See Intention Codes page for the complete listing.
