London Area Control Centre

Description

London Area Control, abbreviated to AC, provides an area service in the London FIR. The airspace is divided into 5 sectors, and the low-level airspace around the London and Manchester TMAs are delegated to London TC and Manchester ACC respectively.

London AC has a variety of sectors, some high level only and some starting at the base of controlled airspace. The primary function of the ACC is to provide a service for aircraft en-route.

Delegation may be altered by mutual agreement between controllers.

When the EGTT / EGPC low-level ACCs are not staffed, London AC shall provide a service to all aircraft within the airspace of both units as follows:

S10 assumes Manchester TMA airspace AND TC if 20 or TC not online

ONLY S20 online, it assumes London TC airspace.

Should one sector(s)35/28/26 close, the remaining sectors above that sector shall close

For example, if S10, S20, S35 and S28 are online and S35 close, then S28 can either close or log back onto the network as S35.

Should S10 close, S20 shall open S10 or log off

Should S20 close, then unless the controller staffing S35 has the relevent validation for S20; S35 shall close.

Should NE close, S20 shall close and open NE as per the standard procedure and unless the controller staffing S35 has the relevent validation for S20; S35 shall close.

The procedures above shall only be implimented if traffic situation allowes the change of position. If it doesn't, S10 shall be responsible for delegating sectorisation. If sector 10 is closing, then S20 shall assume that authority.

Aerodromes

London AC is responsible for providing an appropriate approach and aerodrome service at the aerodromes listed below:

S20: EGJJ, EGJA, EGJB, EGHH, EGHI
S35: EGGD, EGFF

Traffic for all other aerodromes outside controlled airspace will only be provided with a Basic or Traffic Service workload permitting and should be released for take-off, landing and when within 3nm of the airfield.
