London Area Control Centre

Description

London Area Control, abbreviated to AC, provides an area service in the London FIR. The airspace is divided into 5 sectors, and the low-level airspace around the London and Manchester TMAs are delegated to London TC and Manchester ACC respectively.

London AC has a variety of sectors, some high level only and some starting at the base of controlled airspace. The primary function of the ACC is to provide a service for aircraft en-route.

Bandboxing

Designated sectors should be opened in the following order: S10 then S20 then S35. S26 and S28 may only be opened with permission from the London Chief.

Delegation may be altered by mutual agreement between controllers.

When the low-level ACCs are not staffed London AC shall provide full service to all aircraft within the airspace of both units as follows:

S10 assumes Manchester ACC airspace.

S20 assumes London TC airspace.

Aerodromes

London AC is responsible for providing an appropriate approach and aerodrome service at the aerodromes listed below:

S10: EGSH
S20: EGJJ, EGJA, EGJB, EGMH, EGHI
S35: EGHQ, EGHD, EGGD, EGFF, EGTE, EGTG

Traffic for all other aerodromes outside controlled airspace will only be provided with a FIS / RIS workload permitting and should be released for take-off, landing and when within 3nm of the airfield.
